Guess what? I’ve been busy cleaning!
Yesterday I took the entire day to clear out closets and sort through years of clutter. Our closets are the junk drawers of our hallway and bedrooms. Not sure I’ll ever wear that shirt again? Toss it in the closet! Legos making too much of a mess? Toss them in the closet! Our closets are the abyss of will deal with later items.
But no more! Okay, I’m exaggerating. I have two closets clutter free, but I have a way to go. Check out my progress! The closet in the photo holds craft supplies and a few mementos I love having on display. Every time I walk in I feel calm. It’s a total mood lift, and I actually find myself smiling about my closet.
The cleaning schedule has been a success too. I’ve had a couple of days where I didn’t get more than the daily to do list completed, but I’m encouraged by my progress, and motivated to continue using the schedule.
Do you use labels to keep organized?
I bought some plastic shoeboxes for less than a dollar and Mabel’s Labels. The plastic boxes stack well on closet shelves, and keep small items from looking messy.
Here is a list of household items that fit into a plastic shoebox:
- jewelry
- dress socks
- ties
- art supplies
- craft supplies
- office supplies
- nail polish
- makeup
- hair care
- essential oils
- pet food
- pet accessories
- batteries
- flashlights
- tools

Ugh, I have so much clutter in my house. I cleaned it all this past summer and it’s right back to where I started. Sigh.
I think thats why it’s so important that we create a system, don’t you? I’m still guilty of letting things pile up, but I do have a few more “homes” for items, which makes it easier for me to get them out of the way. 馃檪
Can you come and uncluttered my house please?! I moved a few months ago and we are still trying to put it all together! This looks great you did an awesome job.
Haha! I’m still trying to get my place under control! 馃槈 I do love a good de-clutter before moving, but always seem to find more unused belongings when I unpack at the new place…
This is great! Never hurts to have extra tips on keeping things organized and getting rid of clutter can be such a great feeling!
I agree! I walk into this closet and I’m suddenly content, which I still find funny because it’s just a closet!
I should get on the declutter bandwagon. There are parts of my house that look like a tornado blew through.
I know the feeling. My kids are very helpful tornados. 馃槈
I need to declutter. I also need to do some major cleaning in my house. I need to get rid of a ton of stuff!
I felt like I needed to de-clutter before I could get into deep cleaning. Now I use the printable cleaning schedule in week 3 of this series to keep the place consistantly clean. It’s still a struggle, but getting easier.
I need to get my boys room under control! I feel like every single day there is something out of place. I think if I organize it and make a place for everything I will have an easier timer getting them to clean up
I feel that way about our playroom. I clean it, and the next day everything is everywhere again! I’ve gotten rid of many unused toys, so the clutter is more under control. 馃槈
Your closet looks great! I should go through my whole hous eand declutter one area at a time.
Thanks! I’m trying to go room by room. Going to have to tackle the laundry room next!
Clean room and very organized.. I need to clear clutter our rooms and garage
Do it! It’s such a good feeling! 馃檪 I cleared our garage about a month ago. I couldn’t believe all the random things we had in there, and a lot of things to be trashed. It’s still pretty clean, but I’m sure it’ll need another clutter bust in a few months!
We have clutter EVERYWHERE. I will definitely need to stay current on this series of posts so that we can declutter!
It’s really nice to see a place that is organized. Organization makes things always look better. I love the various items that are out there to help us keep the clutter down.
I love keeping organized. I can’t stand a mess and a bunch of clutter. I still am working on making things a bit more organized too.
Using labels is a brilliant idea. This will help you find things easily.
I love the kind that can wipe off so I can reuse them! I still have a whole lot of labeling to do!
Yes, I do use labels in our home office. It’s easier to find things when they’re labeled. I still need to work on my son’s desk. Soon! 馃檪
I like the long narrow labels for individual school supplies, and the wipe off for boxes of supplies. Not that my kids put things back where they belong…;)
I have been decluterring ever since Fall started. I have sold some pre-loved clothes online and I have lots of office sipplies to dispose as well.
That’s awesome! I just found boxes of kids clothes that I’ve saved through the years. Another box of things I thought I needed but now that I see them, they’re worn and wrinkled! I’ll use some of them as play clothes for my youngest and donate the others!
Labels are a great way to stay organized. You closet looks amazing. I will have to do mine.
Your before and after looks great. I too love to organize and have a place for everything. Right now, I am getting ready to move, so I need to go through our stuff and make sure what I pack is actually what we need to take with us.
Luckily we just moved at the end of August and don’t have much clutter BUT it’s easily made in our house of 8! So this is great.
Yes, there are some things I could organize a little better. Im always working on my daughters stuff… forgetting about my own space.
I need all the decluttering help I can get! Seriously! Want to come help me? LOL
I love ideas like this!! I love decluttering my house and have a TON of shoe boxes laying around!
I really want to get my store room organized. It looks a like a bomb exploded in there. To be honest, I never used labels but think it’s a brilliant idea to stay more organized especially for big cupboards with lots of items.
Things feel good when they’re organized and not cluttered. They look good too. 馃檪
I need to declutter my closets. I have so much stuff, though! That’s why I’m not really looking forward to it.
I really needed to read this right now. I’m kind of multitasking all around the house and I need to declutter and organize!! Thanks for the tips!
I moved into a new house back in May and have so much stuff left to unpack! I need to clean up some of the clutter first though!
This is something I have been working in all week!!! My house gets so cluttered so quick and I hate it lol…
Congrats on your way to having a clutter-free home! 馃榾 I guess I’ve started a long time ago and it always feels good coming home to a clean house. Clears my mind. 馃榾
