Summer and fleas. Two words that are so conflicting in my mind. I’m excited to see the hot days of summer roll in bringing the opportunity for nature hikes and trips to dog beach here in San Diego. But with a huge yard of mostly dirt surrounded by farms, I’m expecting to see more than a few fleas on our family pets. I received Hartz flea control and pet products in exchange for this review, and hopefully a flea free summer.
We have a very loving, and very hyper dog breed. Vizsla are high energy dogs nicknamed the “velcro dog,” because of their attachment they have with their owners. About a week ago our Vizsla named Finn bound through the backdoor ready to for bed and the entire house started to stink. It was obvious he had rolled in something disgusting.
I dug into the box of Hartz products I had received in the mail and found a bottle of Hartz Ultraguard Flea & Tick Shampoo for dogs. Thank goodness for that bottle because we were able to sleep soundly that night with a clean dog snoozing at the foot of our bed.
The next day I dug deeper into the box of Hartz products and found some pretty cool stuff. Bacon scented dog chew toys, Hartz Flea & Tick Spray, and topical flea control are just a few of the products Hartz sent for our fur babies.
I think it’s pretty gross to find fleas hopping on your feet because pets have brought them inside, and I wouldn’t want my pets to have to deal with fleas. But it’s not always easy to find effective flea control. We have dealt with fleas in the past and there were times when popular flea control treatments didn’t work effectively.
We’re giving Hartz Triple Action Flea & Tick Drops for Dogs and Puppies a try this season as a preventative measure for fleas. Hartz Triple Action Flea & Tick drops kills fleas, brown dog ticks, deer ticks and flea eggs. It also repels mosquitos and prevents re-infestation.
The first thing I noticed with the flea drops is that they didn’t leave an irritated patch of skin where they were applied on our dog. Sadly, our cats and dogs have gotten scabby sores in between their shoulder blades with other flea drops, so it’s a relief to see no irritation with Hartz flea and tick drops. Secondly, the oily residue common with topical flea control went away quickly. That yucky oily residue can last for days with some treatments.
Like I said, we’re using the drops as a preventative measure so we’ll be continuing the drops through the summer to keep the fleas away. Finn will hopefully be itching less and playing with his adorable Hartz toys instead!
